This piece could be performed either in church or on a Christmas concert. It is a setting of the first verse of the hymn. It is sung mostly in Latin but portions are in English. The setting is meant to recall the medieval origins of the hymn and yet have modern overtones. Most of the parts are easy and it goes together with a minimum of rehearsal. It makes a good holiday finale for large combined or festival type groups.
