Lament and Exultation is an attempt to write substantial, musically satisfying music for younger musicians. Nevertheless, I think it would be musically appropriate for bands at all levels. The piece should be especially satisfying for low reeds and brass, who are often unchallenged by the vanilla parts so common in music written to this level. Lament and Exultation is written to a "grade 3" level and should be playable by good middle school or young high school bands.

It is a concert band setting of my “Song and Festive Dance” woodwind quintet. While the form and thematic material are similar, there are entirely new sections and expanded harmonic material. For many years I have wanted write a band version of my quintet. I think you will like it.
